Alberta tradesperson lookup.

Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training publishes a Tradesperson Lookup Tool to check an Alberta registered apprentice or an Alberta-issued certificate. It needs a first name, last name and either a certificate number or an AIT ID. Type a number to see which one it looks like.

Important, up front: Alberta says the tool cannot search credentials issued elsewhere, and it returns only current Alberta-certified individuals and active apprentices (cancelled or suspended records are not displayed). A shape match here does not mean the number exists.

What the lookup needs and shows

You enter a first name, last name and a certificate or AIT ID, and no middle name. Alberta says a certificate number is usually six digits plus a letter (its example is 000001A) and an AIT ID is a 4 to 7 digit number. The tool can confirm a journeyperson certificate and/or Red Seal endorsement issued in Alberta, including the trade, and can show whether a person is a registered apprentice with their trade and period of training. Where one person holds several certificates in a trade there may be more than one result, and Red Seal status appears only on the most recent certificate.

Consent and other provinces

Alberta staff will not disclose AIT ID or certificate numbers, including to a sponsor or employer, without the individual's consent. To check a credential issued by another province, Alberta tells employers to verify through the issuing jurisdiction; see the Red Seal verification guide.
