Red Seal lookup: verify a credential by province.

There is no single national Red Seal database. Each province and territory verifies the credentials it issued. Pick the issuing jurisdiction to see the official lookup or the email request it uses, and what you must provide.

Important, up front: a Red Seal is a seal on a provincial or territorial certificate showing the Red Seal exam was passed. It does not by itself license anyone to work in a trade. Verify with the jurisdiction that issued it.

What a Red Seal endorsement means

The Red Seal site describes the endorsement as a seal affixed to a provincial or territorial certificate of qualification, earned by passing the Interprovincial Red Seal examination. It shows the holder has met the national standard in that trade. It "does not indicate that a person is certified by a province or territory to carry on any trade", and Red Seal says to verify certification or Red Seal status with the provincial or territorial apprenticeship authority.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a national Red Seal lookup?

Red Seal's verification page sends you to the province or territory that issued the credential. Each runs its own online register or email process.

Does a Red Seal mean someone is licensed to work in a trade?

No. Red Seal states the endorsement does not indicate a person is certified by a province or territory to carry on any trade. Regulated trades may also need a separate licence from another agency.

How long do email verifications take?

Red Seal's page lists about 10 business days for the jurisdictions that verify by email.

What if the credential came from a province not listed online?

Use the email route shown for that jurisdiction and be ready to provide consent or the person's identifying details.
