How the fees are calculated
Let G = item price + shipping charged to the buyer. For a US seller using Etsy Payments, one sale is charged:
| Fee | Rule |
|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing, and again each time it renews after a sale. Treated here as $0.20 per sale. |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of G (price plus shipping and gift wrap). |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 on the gross order amount including shipping and tax. |
| Offsite Ads (only if the sale is attributed) | 15% of G if your sales over the prior 365 days are under $10,000, 12% at $10,000 or more; never more than $100 on one order. US sales tax is not charged this fee. |
Net profit = G − all fees − cost of goods − your postage cost. Break-even price is the item price where net profit is zero, solved from the same formula (with the $100 cap if it applies), keeping shipping and your costs fixed.
- The 12% rate is for the lifetime of the shop once you reach $10,000, even if sales later drop. This tool picks the rate from the sales figure you enter and does not know your history.
- An opt-out only applies under $10,000. At $10,000 or more the tool ignores the opt-out box, as Etsy's policy ends the opt-out.
- Not included: Etsy Ads, Etsy Plus, currency conversion, Regulatory Operating fees, deposit fees, income tax, refunds, discounts and returns.
- This is an estimate, not what Etsy will bill. Compare it with the fee lines in your Etsy payment account.

FAQ
Is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee 12% or 15%?
Etsy's fees policy says 15% if your shop made less than $10,000 USD in sales over the prior 365 days, and 12% once it reaches $10,000. Once you reach $10,000 the 12% rate applies for the lifetime of the shop, even if sales later fall below it.
Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
Only while your shop is under the $10,000 threshold. Etsy's policy lets you opt out for as long as the shop stays under $10,000; on reaching it you must participate and pay 12% on attributed orders. Check the current opt-out controls in your Etsy shop settings.
What does the Offsite Ads fee apply to, and is there a cap?
It is charged on the order total: the displayed price plus shipping and gift wrap (US sales tax is excluded). It is only charged when a buyer clicks an Etsy offsite ad and orders from your shop within 30 days. The fee on a single order never exceeds $100 USD.
What other fees does Etsy take on a US sale?
A $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the price plus shipping and gift wrap, and for US bank accounts a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 on the gross order amount including shipping and tax.
Does the $10,000 threshold include shipping?
No. Etsy calculates it from item price times quantity, minus discounts and cancelled orders, and excludes separately charged shipping, taxes, gift wrap and Etsy fees.
How do I price an item so an offsite ad sale still makes money?
Use the break-even price shown under the result. It is the lowest item price at which net profit is zero with your costs and the offsite ad fee included. Add the margin you want on top.
