Whatnot fee and profit calculator.

See what a Whatnot sale really pays you after commission, payment processing and shipping, or work backwards to the price that hits your target profit. Rates are editable and everything runs in your browser.

A $50 item with $6 shipping charged, at the 8% Standard US commission: commission is $4.00 (on the $50 only), processing is 2.9% × $56 + $0.30 = $1.92, so Whatnot keeps $5.92 and your payout is $50.08. With $20 item cost and $6 postage, profit is $24.08.

How the fees are worked out

Whatnot charges two separate fees on a sale, and they use different bases. Both rules below are from Whatnot's seller fees page.

Commission = commission rate × item sale price. Whatnot says it calculates commission on the sale price of the item and that shipping and taxes paid by the buyer are not included. The rate depends on your category and on a four-week sales tier: your total sales across all categories in a 28-day period set the tier, and the tier applies from the start of the next period. In the United States the Standard tier ($0 to $14,999) is 8% for sports cards, trading card games, fashion, other collectibles and other; coins are 4%. Higher tiers are lower (for example 7.75% for cards at $15,000 to $34,999, down to 6.5% at $500,000 and above).

Processing = 2.9% × order total + $0.30. For the US, Canada and Australia Whatnot lists 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, calculated on the total order value the buyer pays: item price, buyer-paid shipping and taxes, plus the fixed fee.

Payout and profit. Payout = item price + shipping charged − commission − processing. Profit = payout − item cost − your shipping cost. In this tool, buyer sales tax is treated as collected and remitted by Whatnot, so it adds to the processing base but is not your revenue.

Reverse mode. With commission rate c, processing rate f, tax rate t, fixed fee F, shipping charged S and target profit T, the price is (T + item cost + shipping cost + F − S(1 − f(1+t))) / (1 − c − f(1+t)), rounded up to the next cent. This is algebra on the formulas above.

Worked example

$50 item, $6 shipping charged, 8% commission, 2.9% + $0.30 processing, no tax. Commission: 0.08 × 50 = $4.00. Buyer pays 56; processing: 0.029 × 56 + 0.30 = $1.92 ($1.924 before rounding). Payout: 56 − 4.00 − 1.924 = $50.08. With $20 item cost and $6 postage, profit is $24.08, about 43% of the $56 collected. To clear $30 profit on the same item, charge $56.65.

Limits of this calculator

Whatnot can change rates and runs promotions (for example reduced rates for some categories, or new-seller offers), so check the rate on an actual order in Seller Hub, where you can see the exact commission and processing. Rates in other markets differ and are not prefilled. The calculator does not include taxes on Whatnot's own fees, refunds, chargebacks, promotional or buyer-paid shipping programs, income tax on your profit, or the tier effect of this sale on your next four-week period. Your tier is set by your sales in the previous period, so pick it from Seller Hub, not from this sale. Not financial or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

What are Whatnot's seller fees?

Two fees: a commission on the item sale price (8% at the Standard US tier for most categories, lower at higher tiers) and payment processing of 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction in the US, charged on the whole order the buyer pays.

Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping and sales tax?

No. Whatnot says commission is calculated on the item sale price, and that shipping and taxes paid by the buyer are not included. Payment processing, however, is calculated on the total order value including shipping and taxes.

How do I get a lower Whatnot commission rate?

Your rate drops as your total sales in a four-week period rise. The tier you reach sets the rate for the next four-week period, and the rate also depends on the category you sell in. Whatnot says there is nothing to apply for.

Do Pokemon and sports card sellers pay the same commission?

On Whatnot's US table, sports cards and trading card games (which includes Pokemon) have the same rates: 8% at Standard falling to 6.5% at Tier 6. Fashion, other collectibles, coins and other categories have their own rates. The category follows the show for live sales and the product for marketplace sales.

Why is my payout different from this calculator?

Common reasons: your actual tier or a promotional rate differs from the one entered, buyer tax and shipping are handled differently on your order, or a refund or cancellation applies. Compare against the receipt and earnings details on the order in Seller Hub, then edit the rates above to match.
