Break-even

How the break-even works

Printify's subscription trades a fixed monthly cost for a percentage off the base cost of each product you order. Printify's Free vs Premium page lists Premium at $39 a month or $299 a year (about $24.99 a month) and "up to 20% off the entire Printify Catalog", applied to base product costs, with up to 33% off newly launched items. Because the discount is a maximum, this calculator makes the percentage an input so you can model the discount you actually see on your own orders.

Worked example

With an average base cost of $12 per order and a 20% discount, each order saves $2.40. The monthly plan costs $39, so break-even is $39 / $2.40 = 16.25, which means 17 orders a month. On the annual plan the monthly cost is $299 / 12 = $24.92, so break-even is 10.38, which means 11 orders. At 20 orders a month on the monthly plan, savings are $48 and the net is $9 a month.

Methodology

Savings per order = average base cost × discount. Break-even orders = plan cost per month / savings per order, rounded up to a whole order. Net per month = orders × savings per order − plan cost. Annual billing uses the annual price divided by twelve and assumes you keep the plan for the whole year. The calculator does not model the extra discount on new product launches, shipping, price changes or free trials, and it uses one average base cost for all orders; if your catalogue is mixed, run it for a typical order. Your results will vary with your product mix, order volume and what Printify actually discounts.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Printify Premium cost?

Printify lists Premium at $39 per month or $299 per year, about $24.99 a month on the annual plan. Check the Printify pricing page for the current price.

How many orders do I need for Printify Premium to pay off?

It depends on your base cost. Plan cost divided by (base cost per order times your discount) gives the orders; with $12 base cost and a 20% discount the monthly plan needs 17 orders a month.

What discount does Printify Premium give?

Printify says up to 20% off the full catalogue on base costs and up to 33% off newly launched items. Because these are maximums, enter the discount you really receive.

Does the discount apply to shipping?

The Printify page reviewed mentions base product costs only and does not say shipping is discounted, so this tool does not discount shipping.

Is Printify Premium refundable?

Printify describes Premium plans as non-refundable, so cancel before renewal if you do not want the next charge.
