Bake Sale Profit Calculator: how it works

Revenue = items baked x share sold x price. Total cost = items baked x cost per item + other costs, because everything baked is paid for whether or not it sells. Profit = revenue - total cost. Break-even items = total cost / price, rounded up. The lowest break-even price = total cost / items sold.

Worked example. 120 items at $0.75 each plus $25.00 of other costs cost $115.00. Selling 85% (102 items) at $2.50 brings in $255.00, so profit is $140.00. You break even after 46 sales (38.3% of what you baked), and the lowest price that breaks even at 85% sold is $1.13.

The sell-through is your guess. No average bake sale profit is assumed here; use your own past sales and your own costs. Leftovers are counted as a cost.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate bake sale profit?

Revenue minus everything you spent. $255.00 of sales less $115.00 of costs leaves $140.00.

How much should I charge at a bake sale?

Enter your cost and expected sell-through; the lowest break-even price is shown. Here it is $1.13, so $2.50 leaves room for profit.

What if the ingredients are donated?

Set the cost per item to zero and keep only costs your group pays, such as bags and signs.

Do leftovers count?

Yes. Everything baked is counted as a cost, and only the share sold earns revenue, so a lower sell-through lowers profit.
