Worked example
US seller, $40 item, $6 shipping charged, no tax. Listing fee $0.20. Transaction fee: 6.5% x $46 = $2.99. Processing: 3% x $46 + $0.25 = $1.63. Fees total $4.82, so you receive $46 - $4.82 = $41.18. Profit: $41.18 - $10 - $1 - $6 = $24.18. For a Canadian seller on the same numbers the fees are C$4.82 using the Canadian domestic rate. To make $20 profit, list at $35.38.
How it works
Three fees. Etsy's Fee Basics page lists a $0.20 USD listing fee per listing (charged whether or not the item sells), a transaction fee of 6.5% of the total order amount, which applies to the item cost plus shipping and gift wrap if you charge for them, and a payment processing fee. The listing fee field is on by default; set it to 0 if the fee was already paid on an earlier sale of the same listing or you do not want it counted.
Processing = percent x (item + shipping + sales tax) + fixed fee. The processing page says the fee is a set rate plus a percent of the total sale price, taken from the item total including shipping and any applicable sales tax. It lists 3% + $0.25 USD for the United States, 3% + $0.25 CAD for Canada on domestic orders or orders from the US, and 4% + $0.25 CAD for Canada on international orders. Etsy bills the listing fee in USD, so Canadian sellers can enter their converted amount.
Not included. Etsy Ads, Offsite Ads and shipping labels bought on Etsy carry their own fees (see the Etsy offsite ads fee calculator). Gift wrap you charge for belongs in the shipping charged field.
Profit = item price + shipping charged - fees - item cost - supplies - postage you pay. Buyer sales tax is treated as passed on, so it raises the processing base but is not your revenue. Reverse mode finds the lowest price, in whole cents, that reaches your target profit.
Limits
Etsy changes fees by country and has other charges (currency conversion, deposit fees in some countries, Offsite Ads, regulatory fees) that this tool does not model; the processing page lists many more countries than the three offered here. Taxes on Etsy's own fees and income tax on your profit are not included. Not tax or financial advice.
