Method and limits

Storage and egress are priced with graduated tiers: each rate applies only to the GB inside its band. Egress tier boundaries are 10 TB, 50 TB and 150 TB, with 1 TB = 1,024 GB. Request charges are counts divided by 1,000 times the rate.

In US East (N. Virginia) the AWS price list shows $0.090 per GB for the first 10 TB per month beyond the free allowance, then $0.085, $0.070 and $0.050 per GB for higher bands.

Is the first 100 GB free?

The S3 pricing page lists the first 100 GB per month of data transferred out to the internet as free. The allowance is aggregated across AWS services, so edit it if other workloads use it.

Is transfer from S3 to CloudFront charged?

The S3 pricing page lists data transferred out to Amazon CloudFront as not charged by S3. CloudFront has its own rates, covered by the CDN bandwidth calculator.

What is not included?

Other regions, other storage classes, retrieval fees, cross-Region replication and S3 management features are not modelled.
