Worked example
$40 item, $6 shipping charged, no tax. Fee: 10% x $46 = $4.60. You receive $46 - $4.60 = $41.40. Profit: $41.40 - $10 - $1 - $6 = $24.40. On a $5 item with no shipping, 10% is $0.50, so the $0.80 minimum applies and you receive $4.20. With 8% buyer tax on the $40 order the fee base becomes $49.68 and the fee $4.97. To make $20 profit with no tax, list at $35.11.
How it works
Selling fee = the larger of $0.80 and 10% x (item price + shipping + applicable taxes). The Facebook Marketplace Seller Protection Policy says Meta charges individual sellers a fee of 10% per transaction with a minimum fee of $0.80, calculated on the entire amount of the transaction including the sale prices of goods, any shipping fees and applicable taxes. Goods shipped together count as one transaction.
Profit = item price + shipping charged - fee - item cost - supplies - postage you pay. Buyer sales tax is treated as collected and passed on, so it raises the fee base but is not your revenue. Reverse mode finds the lowest price, in whole cents, that reaches your target profit.
What this covers. The policy page describes orders handled through Marketplace checkout and shipping. It is not a calculator for in-person cash sales arranged in chat, and whether checkout with shipping is offered depends on where you are.

The tool does not include any separate payment, promotion or chargeback costs, income tax on your profit, or the value of Seller Protection. Local cash sales are not covered.
