Worked example

Pro Starter, A$100 item with A$10 postage, delivered in Australia. The sale amount is A$110.00. Final value fee: 13.4% x A$110 = A$14.74. Per-order fee: A$0.30. Fees A$15.04 including GST, so you receive A$94.96 and profit after A$40 item cost, A$8 postage and A$1 packaging is A$45.96. To make A$30 profit on those costs, list at A$81.57. Under free selling the same sale has no transaction fees. eBay's own example, a A$6,000 single item sale, is A$0.30 + 13.4% x A$4,000 + 2.5% x A$2,000 = A$586.30, which this calculator reproduces.

How it works

Free selling. eBay.com.au says Australia-registered sellers pay no transaction fees on sales up to A$25,000 in the past 12 months; above that threshold sellers move to a Pro plan, starting with Pro Starter.

Pro Starter and sellers outside Australia. eBay lists a fixed fee of A$0.30 per order plus a variable fee of 13.4% of the sale amount up to A$4,000 and 2.5% on the part above A$4,000, for most categories. The sale amount includes postage, handling and extra services the buyer pays for. eBay shows these fees including GST. Services listings carry a flat A$44.00 instead.

International sales fee. For Australia-registered sellers it applies on the total sale amount, including postage, when the delivery address is outside Australia; eBay's pages list 3% (free selling) and 1.1% (Pro Starter). The rate boxes are editable if yours differs.

GST. eBay says GST of 10% is payable on eBay fees for Australia-registered sellers, and the fees shown include it. If you are registered for GST, one eleventh of the fees is claimable and one eleventh of a GST-inclusive sale price is owed; the "GST registered" option applies both. That is arithmetic, not tax advice.

Limits

Pro Basic, Featured and Anchor plans have lower rates by category tier; the published table could not be read unambiguously, so use the editable rate box with the figure on your own plan page. The A$25,000 threshold is tracked by eBay, not by this tool. The seller currency conversion charge (3%, rising to 3.25% from 1 November 2026), insertion fees beyond the free allowance, upgrades, dispute fees and performance fees (5.5% of the sale for Below Standard accounts) are not modelled. Pro Starter and non-Australian sellers are shown on one rate because eBay lists the same figures.
