What is checked, and where each rule comes from
Rules were read from the official BigCommerce pages below on 2026-10-18. Required fields: Item, Type, Name and Price for every new product, plus Weight for physical products. Case: BigCommerce says field names are case-sensitive and Item must be exactly Product, Variant, Image or Video. Empty fields: the article lists Product URL, Free Shipping, Is Visible, Is Featured, Tax Class, Product Condition and Show Product Condition as optional columns that must be filled in or deleted. Numbers: prices carry no currency symbol and weight and dimensions no units. ID: leave blank for new records. Size: CSV only, up to 20 MB. Categories: the modern import takes Category ID, not Category name. BigCommerce states no encoding, so an encoding problem is only a warning here. Why does BigCommerce say my import has errors with empty fields?
The article says empty fields cause import errors unless it states otherwise, and names optional columns (such as Product URL and Is Visible) that must be filled in or removed. This tool flags any of those that have a blank cell.
