What is checked, and what is not
Limits used, from Google’s Merchant Center help: no image larger than 64 megapixels; no file larger than 16 MB; current minimums of 100 × 100 pixels for non-clothing products and 250 × 250 pixels for clothing products through 30 January 2027; at least 500 × 500 pixels for all product images beginning 31 January 2027; images around 1,500 × 1,500 pixels or above recommended; accepted formats JPEG, WebP, PNG, non-animated GIF, BMP, and TIFF. Before the new enforcement date the tool applies the current floor and warns about the coming 500 × 500 requirement.
The 16 MB limit is not defined as decimal or binary, so a file between 16,000,000 and 16,777,216 bytes is flagged as a warning rather than a failure. Animation and transparency are read from file headers. Google’s pages do not mention transparency, so it is reported for information only.
Manual checklist, because software cannot judge it: no promotional overlays (calls to action, prices, discounts, warranties, barcodes, QR codes), no watermarks or superimposed logos, no borders, no placeholder or “no image available” graphics, no upscaled images or thumbnails, and the image must show the actual product. Passing this checker does not mean Google will approve the image.
