Worked example

A skier who is 5 ft 9 in tall. The evo chart puts 5 ft 7 in to 5 ft 9 in in one band with a pole length of 48 in, so the calculator returns 48 in (120 cm). A skier of 6 ft 1 in to 6 ft 3 in gets 52 in (130 cm), and anyone 6 ft 7 in and over gets 56 in (140 cm).

How it works

A lookup in a published chart. evo’s ski pole size chart assigns a pole length to each skier height band, from 32 in (80 cm) for skiers under 3 ft 4 in up to 56 in (140 cm) for skiers 6 ft 7 in and taller. The calculator takes your height in whole inches and returns the band it falls in. Centimetres are converted at 2.54 cm per inch before the lookup.

This is a starting size from one retailer’s chart. It does not separate alpine, cross-country or touring poles, so check the maker’s guidance for the type you buy.

FAQ

What size ski poles do I need?

evo’s chart pairs height with pole length: 5 ft 4 in to 5 ft 6 in gets 46 in (115 cm), 5 ft 10 in to 6 ft gets 49 in (125 cm) and 6 ft 4 in to 6 ft 6 in gets 54 in (135 cm).

How do I size ski poles for a child?

The chart has bands for kids, for example 4 ft 1 in to 4 ft 4 in gets 38 in (95 cm) and 3 ft 5 in to 3 ft 8 in gets 34 in (85 cm).

What if I am between two heights?

The chart is read in whole inches, so you take the band your whole inches fall in. If you are at a band edge, a shop can let you hold both lengths.

Are cross-country poles the same length?

The evo chart does not separate alpine from cross-country or touring poles, so check the maker’s guidance for the type you buy.

Does the calculator work in centimetres?

Yes. Choose centimetres for height; the calculator converts to inches first, then reads the chart band.
