How this works

The tool reads the chart Bauer publishes for its sticks, as printed by retailer SCHEELS. Each row pairs a size (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) and a flex with a stick length, a player height range and a player weight range. Your height is read in whole inches. Junior covers 4 ft 8 in to 5 ft 4 in, Intermediate 5 ft 2 in to 5 ft 10 in and Senior 5 ft 5 in to 6 ft 2 in, so the ranges overlap and some heights match two sizes. If you enter a weight, rows whose weight range holds it are kept; if none do, every row for your height is shown. The Senior 87 row prints its weight range as “150 - 190 +”, which this tool treats as 150 lb and up.

The chart measures stick length from the heel of the stick, where it touches the playing surface, to the top of the shaft.

Worked example. A player who is 5 ft 0 in and 70 lb falls in the Bauer Junior height range (4 ft 8 in to 5 ft 4 in). Two Junior rows list a weight range that holds 70 lb: the 30 flex at 50 in (40 to 80 lb) and the 40 flex at 52 in (60 to 100 lb). The calculator shows both. A 6 ft 0 in, 180 lb player lands in the Senior range, where only the 87 flex row (150 to 190+ lb on the chart) holds 180 lb; it prints a 60 in stick.

Frequently asked questions

What size hockey stick do I need for my height?

On the Bauer chart a player 4 ft 8 in to 5 ft 4 in is Junior (50, 52 or 54 in by flex), 5 ft 2 in to 5 ft 10 in is Intermediate (57 in) and 5 ft 5 in to 6 ft 2 in is Senior (60 in).

Why does my height match two sizes?

Bauer’s height ranges overlap: Junior and Intermediate share 5 ft 2 in to 5 ft 4 in, and Intermediate and Senior share 5 ft 5 in to 5 ft 10 in. Add your weight to narrow it, and try both in store.

What does the flex number mean on this chart?

The chart pairs each flex with a player weight range, for example 30 flex with 40 to 80 lb and 87 flex with 150 lb and up. Lower flex numbers go with lighter players.

Is stick length measured to the heel or the toe?

The SCHEELS copy of the Bauer chart says stick length is measured from the stick’s heel point of contact with the playing surface to the top of the shaft.

Does this cover goalie sticks or other brands?

No. It reads Bauer’s skater stick chart only. Other makers publish their own charts, and goalie sticks are sized separately.

Checked

The stick sizes, flex numbers, lengths, height ranges and weight ranges are the Bauer chart as printed by SCHEELS. Reading your height in whole inches and showing overlapping rows are this tool’s own rules. It is a starting size, not a fitting. Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or stored.

Scope

A starting size from a published chart, not a professional fitting. Makers and leagues differ, so try equipment on, and check your league’s rules. Helmets and other protective gear are not covered.
