How this works

Rawlings publishes two bat length charts. The age chart gives a range per band: ages 5 to 7 are 24 to 26 in, 8 to 9 are 26 to 28 in, 10 is 28 to 29 in, 11 to 12 are 30 to 31 in, 13 to 14 are 31 to 32 in, 15 to 16 are 32 to 33 in and 17 and over are 34 in. The height and weight chart is a grid with ten height bands from 36 in to 73 in and over, and fourteen weight bands from 60 lb or less to over 180 lb. This tool reads your height in whole inches and your weight to the next pound band, then returns the cell. Where Rawlings leaves a cell empty, so does the tool.

Bat length is only half the picture. Drop weight (length minus weight in ounces) and the league’s certification mark matter too; see the bat drop weight calculator.

Worked example. A 9 year old falls in the 8 to 9 band, 26 to 28 in. By height and weight, a player who is 4 ft 2 in (50 in) and 95 lb sits in the 49 to 52 in column and the 91 to 100 lb row, which prints 30 in. A 3 ft 4 in (40 in) player at 100 lb is a blank cell on Rawlings’ grid, so the tool says there is no entry rather than guess.

Frequently asked questions

What size baseball bat for a 10 year old?

Rawlings’ age chart gives 28 to 29 in for age 10. For a more specific number use the height and weight grid, for example a 4 ft 2 in (50 in), 95 lb player is shown at 30 in.

How do I pick a bat by height and weight?

Find the height column and weight row on the Rawlings grid. For a player at 50 in and 95 lb it prints 30 in.

What if the grid is blank for my player?

Rawlings leaves some combinations empty, for example very short and heavy. Use the age chart, or try the next band.

What size bat for a 13 year old?

The age chart gives 31 to 32 in for ages 13 and 14.

Does bat length depend on the league?

League certification (USABat, BBCOR and others) sets limits on length and drop. USABat bats cannot be longer than 32 in, and BBCOR bats are limited to 36 in.

Checked

Both tables are Rawlings’ published bat sizing guides as shown on its product pages. Blank grid cells are left blank. Reading height in whole inches and weight to the next pound band are this tool’s own rules. The 32 in and 36 in limits are from the USA Baseball FAQ. Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or stored.

Scope

A starting size from a published chart, not a professional fitting. Makers and leagues differ, so try equipment on, and check your league’s rules. Helmets and other protective gear are not covered.
