How this works
The Osaka Hockey stick guide pairs a player height range with a stick length: under 122 cm is 28 in, 122 to 130 cm is 30 in, 130 to 137 cm is 32 in, 137 to 145 cm is 34 in, 145 to 152 cm is 35 in, 152 to 180 cm is 36.5 in, 180 to 192 cm is 37.5 in and over 192 cm is 38 in. The tool converts your height to centimetres and reads the band; a height on a shared edge, such as exactly 180 cm, goes to the taller band.
This is one manufacturer’s guide. Grays, Kookaburra and others publish their own, and the guide itself says to choose length by total height. It does not cover the bow, weight or balance point that experienced players choose by.
Worked example. A player 150 cm tall (4 ft 11 in) is in the 145 to 152 cm band, a 35 in stick. A player 165 cm tall (5 ft 5 in) is in the 152 to 180 cm band and takes 36.5 in. Taller than 192 cm (6 ft 4 in) the guide lists 38 in.
Frequently asked questions
What length field hockey stick do I need?
On the Osaka guide a player from 152 to 180 cm (5 ft to 5 ft 11 in) uses a 36.5 in stick, 180 to 192 cm uses 37.5 in and over 192 cm uses 38 in.
What size stick for a child?
Under 122 cm (4 ft) is 28 in, 122 to 130 cm is 30 in, 130 to 137 cm is 32 in, 137 to 145 cm is 34 in and 145 to 152 cm is 35 in.
How is stick length chosen?
The Osaka guide says to choose the length from total height using its table.
What is the bow of a stick?
Osaka describes bow as the distance from a flat surface to the stick’s upper edge when the flat side lies on it. This tool does not choose a bow.
Is this the same as ice hockey sizing?
No. This tool reads a field hockey chart. For ice hockey, use the Bauer stick chart calculator.

The height bands and stick lengths are the Osaka Hockey stick and size guide. Converting height to centimetres and sending a shared edge to the taller band are this tool’s own rules. Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or stored.
Scope
A starting size from a published chart, not a professional fitting. Makers and leagues differ, so try equipment on, and check your league’s rules. Helmets and other protective gear are not covered.
