Worked example
A 7 in wrist: snug is 7 + 0.5 = 7.5 in, standard 8 in (20.3 cm) and loose 8.5 in. For a 14 in neck, the comfortable length is 14 + 2 = 16 in, which is a choker. An 18 in chain is a princess length, 20 to 24 in a matinee.
How it works
Bracelet: wrist + 0.5 in snug, + 1 in standard, + 1.5 in loose. Anklet: the same allowances on the ankle measurement. Necklace: at least neck + 1 in, with + 2 in comfortable and + 4 in relaxed.
Named necklace lengths: collar or choker 14 to 16 in, princess 17 to 19 in, matinee 20 to 24 in, opera 28 to 36 in and rope 36 in and up. Where a chain falls depends on neck size and height, so use these as a guide.
Clasps and charms use a little of the length, and thick or rigid bangles need the hand-width instead of the wrist, so check the maker's guide for those.
