Azure Blob cost, tier by tier.

See which access tier is cheapest for your capacity, read and write operations, retrieval and egress.

Tier cost = GB stored × tier rate + operations ÷ 10,000 × rate + GB retrieved × retrieval rate + egress. East US, general-purpose v2, LRS: Hot $0.0208, Cool $0.0152, Cold $0.0036 and Archive $0.00099 per GB-month for the first 50 TB.

Method and limits

The calculator prices the same month on all four tiers so the cheapest is visible. Hot storage uses graduated bands (first 50 TB, next 450 TB, over 500 TB); the other tiers have a single price. Operations are counts divided by 10,000 times the per-10,000 rate. Data retrieval is charged per GB read from Cool, Cold and Archive; Hot has no retrieval charge. Egress uses the first 100 GB free, then the North America and Europe source bands, and is the same on every tier.

Not modelled: early-deletion charges (Cool 30 days, Cold 90 days, Archive 180 days), Archive rehydration priority, tier-change operations, other redundancy options (ZRS, GRS), other regions, index tags, blob inventory, Data Lake Storage and reserved capacity. The Azure price API lists one price per tier in East US; other regions differ.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest Azure Blob tier?

Archive has the lowest storage price, then Cold, Cool and Hot. The order flips as reads grow, because Archive reads cost $5.00 per 10,000 operations and retrieval is charged per GB. The calculator shows which tier wins for your numbers.

Do Cool, Cold and Archive have a minimum storage time?

Yes. Azure lists early-deletion periods of 30 days for Cool, 90 days for Cold and 180 days for Archive. Deleting or moving a blob sooner is charged as if it stayed for the full period. This tool does not model that charge.

Is Azure Blob egress free?

The first 100 GB per month of internet egress is free in all Azure regions. Beyond that, traffic from North America or Europe is $0.087 per GB for the next 10 TB on the Microsoft Global Network.

Which redundancy and region are priced?

LRS in East US for general-purpose v2 accounts. ZRS, GRS and other regions have different prices.
