G1 rules
Zero blood alcohol, a working seatbelt for every passenger, no driving between midnight and 5 a.m., no 400-series highways or high-speed expressways, and a supervising driver with at least four years of experience as the only other person in the front seat. An Ontario-certified driver instructor can supervise on any road.
G2 rules
With a G2 you can drive without an experienced driver, on all Ontario roads and at most times of day. Zero blood alcohol still applies and passengers cannot exceed the number of working seatbelts. Drivers 19 and under: for the first six months of G2 you can drive between midnight and 5 a.m. with only one passenger aged 19 or under; after six months, up to three passengers aged 19 or under. The passenger limits do not apply if a fully licensed driver with four or more years of experience is in the car, or if your passengers are immediate family members.
The tool counts six months from the G2 issue date you enter. Penalties for breaking novice conditions are not modelled; see the Ministry of Transportation’s Driver’s Handbook.
