Enter the date your G1 was issued. The tool adds the minimum time at each stage and the five-year deadline.

The three stages

From the Ministry of Transportation: you must hold a G1 for at least 12 months before the G2 road test, or 8 months if you completed an approved driver education course. You must then hold the G2 for 12 months before the G road test. The full process must be completed within five years or you start over. If the G1 has not expired and you fail, you can retake the test; if the G1 has expired you start over and pay the fees again.

The tool counts calendar months from the date you enter and moves a day like 31 January to the last day of a shorter month. Add your own booking lead time: these are the earliest dates, not appointment dates. The five-year limit is counted from the G1 issue date, which is how this tool reads the ministry’s “full process” limit.
