CPA BC member lookup.

Need to confirm an accountant is a CPA in British Columbia? CPA British Columbia (CPABC) publishes a member directory and a separate firm directory. This page explains what each shows and links to the live search.

Use the official register for the answer: CPABC’s public search is by name and city, not a number validator. This page cannot confirm anyone’s membership; use the CPABC result. It cannot confirm anyone’s status.

What the register covers

  • Member directory — CPABC describes it as a listing of most current members and their city or town of public practice or employment. Members may be excluded at their request for safety or privacy reasons with the Registrar’s approval.
  • Firm directory — a list of firms registered with CPA British Columbia that are in good standing.
  • Former members are not included in the member directory, except for limited categories CPABC lists in its user agreement. Formerly registered firms are likewise generally excluded.
  • Public notices — CPABC publishes a separate Public Notices page; the directories are not a discipline record.

Directories are the regulator’s own and can lag; being listed does not by itself guarantee good standing. Contact the regulator to confirm status.

When to check a CPABC member

Typical reasons: confirming an accountant before you hire them, checking that a bookkeeper using the CPA title is entitled to it, or checking that a firm offering public accounting services is registered in good standing. Start with the member directory for a person and the firm directory for a firm.

Limits of what you will see

CPABC states it does not represent, warrant or guarantee the accuracy, reliability, accessibility or completeness of the directory information, and the directories are not to be used for commercial, marketing or fundraising purposes. A missing name does not prove someone is not a CPA: they may be registered under another legal name, be excluded at their own request, or belong to a different province’s body.

Frequently asked questions

What can I search for in the CPABC directories?

CPABC’s member directory lists members with their city or town of practice or employment, and the firm directory lists registered firms in good standing. Both are searched on CPABC’s own site.

Does the CPABC directory show discipline?

No. CPABC points to its separate Public Notices page for cautions and notices about people and firms; the directory itself is not a discipline record.

What if a CPA in British Columbia is not listed?

Try another spelling or the legal name, drop the city filter, and check the firm directory. Members can be excluded at their request, so contact CPABC through its website if you need a status confirmed.

Is a CPABC listing the same as being licensed for public practice?

Not necessarily. Use the firm directory for firms offering public accounting services and ask CPABC to confirm any licence or registration question directly.

Guide only — not a verification tool

This page describes the register and links to it. It does not check anyone’s membership, it does not copy or proxy any register data, and nothing you might type here is transmitted anywhere. Use the official register to confirm status. Not legal or professional advice.
