APEGA member search.
APEGA’s Member Directory is the official way to confirm whether an engineer or geoscientist is licensed to practise in Alberta. This page explains how it works and links you to it. It does not look anyone up for you.
Short answer: the official place to check is the APEGA Member Directory. Open it, search by name or member number, and read the status on the record.
What the APEGA Member Directory covers
- APEGA calls its directory the only official directory and says it is updated every 24 hours.
- You can switch between Members (individuals) and Permit Holders (companies and organizations).
- You can search by name or APEGA ID number, then filter by designation, practising status or member type.
- APEGA says people who can engage in independent practice are listed as “practicing”.
- APEGA warns of registrant impersonation scams and unauthorized use of stamp images, and asks people to confirm the identity of anyone they find online before accepting their services.
Check a registrant in Alberta
- Open the APEGA Member Directory using the button above.
- Pick Members for a person or Permit Holders for a company.
- Enter the name or APEGA ID, and filter by designation or practising status if needed.
- Check the record shows “practicing”. If nothing appears, re-check the spelling; if the person is still not listed, APEGA says they may not be licensed to practise and invites you to contact it.
Why check Alberta engineer or geoscientist registration
People check the register before signing a contract with a consultant or contractor who advertises engineering or geoscience services, before relying on a stamped drawing or report, and when a firm says it holds a Certificate of Authorization or permit. Match the name, the member or licence number and the status to the document in front of you. Our P.Eng vs EIT and stamp guide explains why a title or stamp alone is not proof, and the province finder links every regulator we cover.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check if someone is licensed with APEGA?
Search the APEGA Member Directory by name or APEGA ID. Use Members for individuals and Permit Holders for companies.
What does “practicing” mean in the APEGA directory?
APEGA says those who can engage in independent practice are listed as “practicing”.
Can a stamp alone prove an engineer is licensed in Alberta?
No. APEGA reports unauthorized use of stamp images and impersonation scams, so confirm the person in the directory instead of relying on a stamp image.
Guide only — not a verification tool
This page is a guide to a public register run by the regulator. It does not look up, scrape, store or transmit anyone’s details, and it cannot confirm a licence on its own. Only the regulator’s register, or the regulator itself, can tell you whether someone is currently licensed.
