CDHO dental hygienist lookup.

The CDHO runs a public register called Find a Registered Dental Hygienist. This page links to it and works out the CDHO’s annual renewal date for you. It does not search the register itself.

Short answer: Use the CDHO’s own register for the record. Registered dental hygienists must renew by December 1 each year, so a hygienist whose renewal is outstanding after that date can show a different status from the one printed on an old receipt.

What the CDHO publishes

The CDHO’s homepage offers a search labelled “Find a Registered Dental Hygienist” that opens its public register. The pages read for this guide do not list the fields the register displays, so this guide does not either. Open the register to see what it shows for the person you are checking.

The CDHO’s renewal page sets out the annual cycle, and that is the part this page can compute for you:

  • Renewal opens October 15 and registered dental hygienists must renew by December 1 of each year, through the CDHO Self-Service Portal.
  • A $100 late penalty fee is charged for renewals received after December 1.
  • The registration year runs January 1 to December 31.
  • Certificates are suspended for non-renewal, and revoked if not reinstated within two years.

Why you’d check a dental hygienist’s registration

People usually look up a dental hygienist to confirm a clinic’s staff are registered, to check a name on a treatment record or insurance claim, or before booking a hygiene-only practice. In Ontario, dental hygiene is a regulated health profession, and the CDHO is the regulator whose register is the place to confirm registration.

Before you search

Renewal timing and what it means for a search

Because every registered dental hygienist is on the same December 1 cycle, a lookup done in the weeks around that date is the likeliest to catch someone mid-renewal. The CDHO’s page says late renewals carry a $100 penalty and that non-renewal leads to suspension, so a recent lapse is something the register, not this page, can show. If a hygienist’s status looks wrong, ask the clinic and the CDHO rather than assuming an error either way.

What a register result can and cannot tell you

A register entry reflects what the regulator holds on the date you look. It does not rate quality of work, and it is not a recommendation. If something looks wrong or out of date, contact the regulator.

Guide only — not a verification tool

This page does not check anyone’s registration, does not copy or proxy the register, and nothing you might type here is transmitted anywhere. The renewal calculator is date arithmetic on the dates the regulator published; it cannot tell you whether anyone has renewed. This page is not affiliated with or endorsed by College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO). Use the official register linked above, and contact the regulator if you have a concern. Information was read from the regulator’s public pages in October 2026 and may change.
