Veterinarian register Ontario.

The College of Veterinarians of Ontario publishes a public register. This page links to it and works out the annual licence renewal date from the College’s published schedule. It does not search the register for you.

Short answer: Use the CVO’s public register for the record. Licensed members must submit information and payment no later than November 30 each year, and a licence that is not renewed after the grace period is cancelled.

What the CVO says the register offers

The CVO describes its public register as providing information on a veterinarian’s licence status, contact information, education and practice history. The College’s renewal page also says that a cancellation is recorded on the Public Register and that board certifications are added to a veterinarian’s record there. What appears for a particular veterinarian is shown by the register itself.

From the College’s licence renewal page:

  • Licensed members must submit information and payment no later than November 30 each year.
  • For the 2027 licence, the page gave a portal close of November 30, 2026 at 11:59 pm EST.
  • Missing that date adds a $200 late fee to the annual licence fee, and late renewals were accepted to February 10, 2027 at 11:59 pm.
  • Licences not renewed by then are cancelled effective February 11, 2027. That affects the Accreditation Certificate and any Professional Corporation Certificate of Authorization.

The February dates and the $200 amount were stated for the 2027 licence cycle. Confirm the current figures on the CVO’s page.

Why you’d check a veterinarian’s licence

Typical reasons include choosing a clinic, checking who signed a health certificate or prescription, confirming a mobile or locum vet is licensed in Ontario, or looking at a practitioner’s education and practice history before a referral. The CVO’s public register is the record the College itself points to for licence status.

Before you search

The renewal cycle

The CVO’s cycle ends on November 30, and its continuing professional development reporting period on the same page ran November 1, 2025 to October 31, 2026. Because the page also described cancellation appearing on the register, a licence lapse after the grace period is something the register, not this page, will reflect. The calculator below only does date arithmetic from the November 30 deadline.

Names and websites can change

The College’s web address and its processes may change over time, and the CVO’s own pages say to confirm deadlines and fees on the current page before acting. Treat this page as a starting point and the official site as the authority.

What a register result can and cannot tell you

A register entry reflects what the regulator holds on the date you look. It does not rate quality of work, and it is not a recommendation. If something looks wrong or out of date, contact the regulator.

Guide only — not a verification tool

This page does not check anyone’s registration, does not copy or proxy the register, and nothing you might type here is transmitted anywhere. The renewal calculator is date arithmetic on the dates the regulator published; it cannot tell you whether anyone has renewed. This page is not affiliated with or endorsed by College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO). Use the official register linked above, and contact the regulator if you have a concern. Information was read from the regulator’s public pages in October 2026 and may change.
