How the Reverb fees are worked out
Selling fee. Reverb says selling fees are 5% of the total value of the transaction, including shipping, with a $0.50 minimum and a $500 maximum fee (US dollar transactions; the cap is higher in some other currencies). The fee is based on the total selling price including all costs except sales tax.
Payment processing. If you use Reverb Payments the billing policy lists $0.49 plus 3.19% of the transaction total, or $0.49 plus 2.99% for Reverb Preferred Sellers. If you take PayPal only, there is no Reverb Payments processing fee and PayPal sets its own fees, which you can type into the optional fields.
Cross-border fee. Reverb lists a 1% fee on the transaction total when buyer and seller live in different countries (excluding the European Economic Area), under the fees that apply to sellers using Reverb Payments.
Break-even price. The calculator tries prices one cent at a time (using a binary search) and returns the lowest price where payout covers your item cost and postage, so the minimum and maximum selling fee are handled exactly.
Net payout, profit and effective rate. Net payout = sale total - Reverb fees (each line rounded to the cent). Profit = net payout - your item cost - your shipping cost. Effective fee rate = total fees / sale total.
Worked example
A $650 guitar with $45 shipping charged is a $695 sale total. The selling fee is 5% = $34.75 and Reverb Payments processing is 3.19% + $0.49 = $22.66, so fees are $57.41 (8.26% effective) and you keep $637.59. With a $450 cost and $45 postage, profit is $142.59.
Limits of this calculator
This calculator uses US dollar rates. Sales tax is left out of the base, as Reverb excludes it from the selling fee; Reverb says the processing fee is a percentage of the transaction total, so if tax is added to your orders the processing line can be slightly higher than shown. Reverb Safe Shipping (1.5% to 3% on Reverb labels), Reverb Bump, currency conversion (2.5%) and the UK table (Reverb lists a 0% Reverb Payments processing fee for UK sellers) are not modelled; add them with the optional fee fields if they apply.
