How the Amazon Handmade fees are worked out
Referral fee. Amazon's Handmade page says that for every unit shipped Handmade deducts a referral fee of 15% or $0.30, whichever is greater. There are no listing fees.
Fee base. Amazon's pricing page says referral fees are a percentage of the total price (or a minimum), whichever is greater. This calculator applies 15% to item price plus shipping charged, and the $0.30 minimum applies to very low-priced items.
Monthly fee. Handmade requires a Professional selling plan, normally $39.99 a month. Amazon says that after a one-time first-month payment the ongoing monthly fee is waived for approved Handmade sellers. It is therefore not added to each sale here.
Break-even price. Found cent by cent, so the $0.30 minimum is handled exactly.
Net payout, profit and effective rate. Net payout = sale total - Amazon Handmade fees (each line rounded to the cent). Profit = net payout - your item cost - your shipping cost. Effective fee rate = total fees / sale total.
Worked example
A $38 handmade item with $6 shipping charged is a $44 total. The referral fee is the greater of 15% ($6.60) and $0.30, so $6.60, and you keep $37.40. With a $14 cost and $6 postage, profit is $17.40.
Limits of this calculator
Seller-fulfilled Handmade orders in the US store. Fulfillment by Amazon fees, advertising, Brand Registry or new-brand referral-fee waivers, returns administration fees and sales-tax handling are not modelled; add them with the optional fields if they apply. Amazon words the base as "total price", and the Handmade page does not restate it, so check a real settlement for how your shipping charges are treated.
