Amazon U.S. · aged inventory

Aged inventory surcharge, by days in stock.

Enter how many days your units have sat in a fulfillment center. The tool picks the tier and bills the greater of the cubic-foot and per-unit methods.

Surcharge = the greater of (units × cubic feet × tier rate) and (units × per-unit fee). It starts at 181 days at $0.50 per cubic foot and reaches $7.90 per cubic foot or $0.35 per unit at 456 days.

Schedule effective 16 January 2026, as printed on Amazon’s “Aged inventory surcharge” page (read 18 October 2026). Before that date, items aged 366 days or more were $6.90 per cubic foot or $0.15 per unit; this tool uses only the current schedule.

Method and limits

Tiers (per cubic foot). 181 to 210 days $0.50; 211 to 240 $1.00; 241 to 270 $1.50; 271 to 300 $5.45; 301 to 330 $5.70; 331 to 365 $5.90; 366 to 455 $6.90 or $0.30 per unit; 456 or more $7.90 or $0.35 per unit, whichever is greater. Items in clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and watches are excluded from the three lowest tiers.

Cubic feet = length × width × height in inches ÷ 1,728, rounded to three decimals as in Amazon’s own worked example (an 11 × 8 × 2 inch toy is 0.102 cubic feet; 20 units at 457 days = $16.12).

Timing. Age is measured first-in, first-out across the network from a snapshot on the 15th of each month, and the surcharge is charged on top of monthly storage fees. Amazon says a removal or disposal order submitted by 11:59 p.m. PT on the 14th avoids that month’s surcharge.

FAQ

What is the Amazon aged inventory surcharge?

It is the fee Amazon previously called the long-term storage fee. It is charged on units stored in the fulfillment network for 181 days or longer, in addition to the monthly inventory storage fee.

How much is the aged inventory surcharge in 2026?

From 16 January 2026: $0.50 per cubic foot at 181 to 210 days rising to $5.90 at 331 to 365 days, then $6.90 per cubic foot or $0.30 per unit at 366 to 455 days and $7.90 per cubic foot or $0.35 per unit from 456 days, whichever is greater.

How does Amazon measure inventory age?

First-in, first-out across the whole fulfillment network. A unit sold or removed is deducted from the oldest stock regardless of which physical unit shipped, and ages are assessed from a snapshot on the 15th of each month.

Are clothing and shoes charged the same way?

Items in clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and watches are excluded from the 181 to 270 day tiers. They are charged from 271 days.

How can I avoid the aged inventory surcharge?

Amazon suggests selling through with an Outlet deal (minimum 20% discount), or submitting a removal or disposal order by 11:59 p.m. PT on the 14th of the month. Inventory with a removal order in place before the cleanup date does not incur the surcharge.
