Worked example
Searching gowanus ny returns GOWANUS CANAL, Brooklyn, NY: status Final NPL (listed), EPA ID NYN000206222, with a link to its EPA site profile. Searching love canal returns LOVE CANAL, Niagara Falls, NY as Deleted from the NPL (EPA ID NYD000606947), a reminder that deleted does not mean it was never contaminated.
How to read the result
- Final NPL: EPA has listed the site as among the nation's highest-priority contaminated sites.
- Proposed: EPA has proposed the site for listing; it is not final.
- Deleted: EPA determined no further response is needed; some sites keep land-use controls or monitoring.
- EPA ID: the identifier EPA assigns to the site; the profile link uses EPA's SEMS site number.
Source, method and as-of date
Records come from the EPA SEMS site table (statuses F, P and D) via the Envirofacts data service at data.epa.gov. Snapshot taken 2026-09-30: 1,337 final, 37 proposed and 466 deleted sites. EPA's own pages are at Superfund data and reports. Searching runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Weekly refresh note: EPA updates SEMS continuously and the NPL changes in periodic rulemakings. This page is a dated snapshot, so always confirm current status on the EPA profile before relying on it.
