Worked example

On 2026-09-30 EPA's table held 4,993 rows, which collapse to 1,516 distinct product listings from 332 companies. Searching seventh generation returns 76 of them, such as Seventh Generation All Purpose Cleaner - Lemon Chamomile (sector: All-Purpose Cleaners, partner since 2009). Searching glass cleaner narrows to the Window/Glass Cleaners sector, which had 98 listings in that fetch. Your counts will differ as EPA updates the list.

How it works

Your browser requests EPA's public Envirofacts table saferchoice.t_safer_choice_and_design_for_the_environment directly; nothing you type is sent to TNAADO. Rows are collapsed on the EPA listing URL because the table has one row per UPC/GTIN. Matching is plain case-insensitive substring search with all terms required. The fetch is about 2.5 MB and happens on your first search only.

FAQ

Does Safer Choice mean a product is non-toxic?

No. EPA describes Safer Choice as helping people find products that perform and contain ingredients that are safer for human health and the environment (epa.gov/saferchoice). It is not a claim that a product is free of all risk; follow the product's directions.

Why does a product appear once here but several times in EPA's table?

EPA lists one row per UPC or GTIN. This tool shows each EPA listing once.

Is this list current?

It is fetched from EPA when you search, and the fetch date is shown. A certification can change afterwards, so confirm on the EPA listing before relying on it.

What is Design for the Environment (DfE)?

DfE is the program's earlier name. Those products are flagged DfE in EPA's table next to Safer Choice listings.

Reference only

Not affiliated with or endorsed by EPA. A listing is EPA's record of certification, not a safety guarantee. Confirm on the official EPA listing.
