NMLS Consumer Access and NMLS ID lookup.

NMLS Consumer Access is the public search for mortgage loan originators and companies licensed or registered through the NMLS. This guide explains the steps and sends you to the official site.

Important, up front: this is a guide, not a verification service. It links to the official register and never queries it for you. The live record on the official site is the only thing that confirms a licence or registration.

How to check, step by step

  1. Get the originator’s full name, the company name and, if they will give it, their NMLS ID. A licensed originator should be willing to share it.
  2. Open nmlsconsumeraccess.org, the official NMLS Consumer Access site, and confirm the address before you type anything.
  3. Search by name, company, city, state, ZIP code, NMLS ID or licence number. An individual’s name is only needed when you look up a loan originator.
  4. Optionally filter by Individual or Company and by state regulator, then apply the filters.
  5. Open the record and check the State Licenses/Registrations section: the Regulator field shows which state licensed or registered them, and the licence name shows the type.

There is no format or check-digit rule published by NMLS that this page can verify offline, and sources disagree on how many digits an NMLS ID has, so this page does not validate NMLS IDs. Search the number on the official site instead.

Per Connecticut’s instructions, a record shows the name and NMLS ID, contact details and the State Licenses/Registrations section.
