Worked example
Enter 5536. The list returns NAVY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION in Vienna, VA, a federal credit union with $204.36 billion in total assets and about 15.5 million members as of the second quarter of 2026. Enter navy va and the same record appears among name matches. A charter number is unique to one credit union, so it is the quickest way to confirm you have the right one when several share similar names.
What the fields mean
Status. Every credit union in this file is on the NCUA's list of active federally insured credit unions at the end of 2026 Q2. A credit union that is not found here may have merged, liquidated, been renamed since June 30, 2026, or may be privately insured rather than NCUA-insured. Type. FCU is a federally chartered credit union; FISCU is a state-chartered credit union with federal insurance. Total assets, loans and deposits are dollar amounts reported on the Call Report. Net worth ratio is net worth as a percentage of total assets, shown as published by the NCUA excluding the CECL transition provision. Return on average assets is the NCUA's published figure for the period.
Share insurance
The NCUA states that its Share Insurance Fund provides up to $250,000 of federal share insurance, and that each credit union member has at least $250,000 in total coverage (NCUA Share Insurance Fund). Coverage depends on ownership category, so use the NCUA's own tools to check a specific set of accounts. This page confirms listing only and is not a coverage determination.
About this data
The data is a static snapshot of the NCUA's List of Active Federally Insured Credit Unions (file FederallyInsuredCreditUnions_2026q2.xlsx, 4,214 credit unions, quarter ending June 30, 2026), downloaded from the NCUA's Call Report data page, which was last updated September 14, 2026. Only a subset of the NCUA's columns is shown. The NCUA publishes a new list each quarter, so figures here will lag the latest release and individual records may have changed. For legal, lending or deposit decisions confirm on the NCUA's own site.
