About this case converter
A case converter rewrites the capital letters in a piece of text without changing the words. Use it to fix a paragraph typed with Caps Lock on, to format a headline, or to turn a phrase into a variable name such as user_id or userId. Pick a case above and the result is ready to copy.
What each case does
- UPPERCASE and lowercase: every letter becomes a capital or a small letter. Uppercase converter and lowercase converter.
- Title Case: capitalizes the main words of a headline and keeps short words such as a, the, of, to in lowercase unless they start or end the title. Choose AP or Chicago rules. Title case converter.
- Capitalized Each Word: capitalizes the first letter of every word, including short ones.
- Sentence case: capitalizes the first word of each sentence and lowercases the rest. Sentence case converter.
- camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case, CONSTANT_CASE, dot.case: join words with no separator or with
_,-or.. Punctuation is dropped and existing camelCase is split into words first, soXMLHttpRequestbecomesxml_http_request. camelCase converter and snake_case converter. - aLtErNaTiNg and Inverse: alternates small and capital letters, or swaps the case of every letter.
How it handles awkward text
- Apostrophes: don't stays one word, so title case gives Don't, not Don'T.
- Acronyms and brand names: tick “Leave words with capitals inside alone” to keep NASA and iPhone as typed in Title, Sentence and Capitalized modes.
- Unicode: the German sharp s uppercases to SS (straße becomes STRASSE), as the Unicode standard specifies, so converting back does not restore it. Turkish and Azerbaijani use a dotted capital İ and a dotless lowercase ı; pick that language to get them.
- Line breaks: each line is converted on its own for title case and identifier styles, so you can convert a whole list at once.
Naming conventions in code
Python's PEP 8 asks for lowercase_with_underscores for functions and variables and CapWords for classes. Google's JavaScript style guide uses lowerCamelCase for variables and functions and UpperCamelCase for classes, and Oracle's Java conventions add all-uppercase names with underscores for constants. For web addresses, Google recommends hyphens rather than underscores to separate words in a URL.

FAQ: Case converter
How do I change uppercase to lowercase?
Paste the text into the box and click lowercase. Every capital letter becomes a small letter, and the result updates as you type. The lowercase converter does only this.
What is the difference between Title Case and Sentence case?
Title Case capitalizes the main words of every line, as in a headline: The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over the Lazy Dog. Sentence case capitalizes only the first word of each sentence and proper nouns you type that way: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. This tool cannot recognize proper nouns, so sentence case lowercases them; tick the keep-capitals option to protect names with inner capitals.
Which small words stay lowercase in Title Case?
In AP style, articles and conjunctions and prepositions of three letters or fewer stay lowercase, and longer words are capitalized. In Chicago style, articles, coordinating conjunctions and prepositions stay lowercase whatever their length. The first and last words are always capitalized. This tool works from word lists and cannot read grammar, so it leaves words that can be adverbs, such as up and over in Chicago mode, capitalized. Check headlines for your own style guide.
Does it work with accented and non-English letters?
Yes. The conversion uses Unicode case mappings in your browser, so letters such as é, ñ, ü and ø convert correctly. For Turkish and Azerbaijani, choose that language so that i and I map to İ and ı. Scripts without letter case, such as Chinese or Arabic, are left unchanged.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and the text is not sent or stored anywhere.
