About this camelCase converter

camelCase joins words with no separator, lowercases the first word and capitalizes the first letter of each later word: user id becomes userId. PascalCase (also called UpperCamelCase or CapWords) capitalizes the first word too: UserId.

How the words are found

Where each style is used

Google's JavaScript style guide uses lowerCamelCase for variables, functions and methods and UpperCamelCase for classes. Oracle's Java conventions capitalize the first letter of each internal word, with a lowercase first letter for methods and variables. PEP 8 uses CapWords for Python classes and prefers lowercase_with_underscores for functions, so for Python functions use the snake_case converter.

FAQ: camelCase converter

How do I convert text to camelCase?

Type or paste the phrase. The first word is lowercased and each later word starts with a capital, with spaces and punctuation removed. Use the buttons to switch to PascalCase.

What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?

camelCase starts with a lowercase letter (userId); PascalCase starts with a capital (UserId). Many languages use PascalCase for class names and camelCase for variables and functions.

Can I convert snake_case or kebab-case to camelCase?

Yes. Underscores and hyphens are treated as word breaks, so first_name and first-name both become firstName.

Can I convert many names at once?

Yes. Put one name per line; each line is converted on its own and the line breaks are kept.
