Why this is a validator, not a copied directory

Swift defines BIC as the ISO 9362 identifier: a 4-character business-party prefix, 2-letter country code, 2-character suffix and optional 3-character branch identifier. A structure match does not show that the BIC exists, is connected to the Swift network, or belongs to the institution you expect.

SwiftRef provides a free public BIC Search with limited access and its own terms. We link to that service instead of downloading, mirroring, or republishing its directory.

Privacy: this format check runs locally. The value is not sent to TNAADO.
