Gaming · Idle and incremental
Idle game prestige calculator.
Cookie Clicker's game code sets prestige level = floor((all cookies ever baked ÷ 1,000,000,000,000) ^ (1/3)). Eight times the earnings only doubles the level, so late prestiges come slowly. Example: 8 trillion lifetime cookies is level 2, and 1 quadrillion is level 10. The preset is Cookie Clicker; other idle games use other constants, so the base and root boxes let you enter yours.

How prestige gain is calculated
Prestige systems reset your progress in exchange for a permanent bonus, and the number of prestige levels you get is a function of how much you earned. Cookie Clicker publishes its game code, and the function there is Math.pow(cookies / 1000000000000, 1 / 3), where the cookie total is the cookies from all past ascensions plus the cookies of the current run. The game rounds that down to whole levels, and the gain from an ascension is the new level minus the level you already had. This page runs that formula and also accepts any base and root so you can try the constants of another incremental game.
Each level then adds 1% to production in the base game, multiplied by a heavenly potential figure that grows as you buy certain upgrades. Because the root is 3, earnings must rise eightfold to double your level, and one thousandfold to multiply it by ten. That curve is why the first ascensions feel generous and later ones feel slow.
Worked examples with real numbers
- 8 trillion cookies in the first run. 8e12 ÷ 1e12 = 8, and the cube root of 8 is 2. You gain 2 levels and, at full potential, 2% more production.
- Coming back with history. With 2.7e13 earned in past ascensions you hold level 3. Add a run of 3.7e13 and lifetime earnings are 6.4e13, which is level 4: a gain of 1. The next level needs 1.25e14 lifetime, so 6.1e13 more.
- A thousandfold jump. Going from 1e15 to 1e18 lifetime earnings moves the level from 10 to 100, not to 10,000, because earnings are cube-rooted.
Lifetime earnings against prestige level (Cookie Clicker constants)
| Lifetime earnings | Prestige level | Production bonus at full potential |
|---|---|---|
| 1e12 | 1 | +1% |
| 8e12 | 2 | +2% |
| 1e13 | 2 | +2% |
| 1e14 | 4 | +4% |
| 1e15 | 10 | +10% |
| 1e16 | 21 | +21% |
| 1e18 | 100 | +100% |
| 1e21 | 1000 | +1000% |
Is it worth ascending now?
The calculator shows two numbers that bear on that: the levels you gain, and the production speed-up they give. The game code does not say when to ascend, and the right moment depends on how long you plan to play and how fast you rebuild the early game. The earnings-to-next-level figure helps you decide whether to wait for one more level before resetting.
What this calculator leaves out
It does not model heavenly upgrades that raise potential, the bonuses that sit on top of prestige, or the milestones of other games. Other idle games often use different bases, roots or entirely different formulas, so use the preset only for Cookie Clicker and check a game's own documentation before trusting custom constants. Common mix-ups
-
Often assumedPrestige gain depends only on what I earned this run.
What the source saysThe game code feeds cookiesReset plus the current run into the prestige function, so cookies from all past ascensions count toward the level and the gain is only the new level minus the old one. [1]
-
Often assumedEvery prestige level multiplies my production by 1%.
What the source saysThe production code adds prestige level x 0.01 x heavenly power x the heavenly multiplier, so the bonus is scaled by your heavenly potential, which starts below 100% and rises with upgrades. [1]
-
Often assumedDoubling my earnings doubles my prestige level.
What the source saysThe prestige function is a cube root: HowMuchPrestige returns pow(cookies / 1e12, 1/3), so earnings must rise eightfold to double the level. [1]

Frequently asked questions
How is prestige calculated in Cookie Clicker?
The game code takes lifetime cookies (all past ascensions plus this run), divides by one trillion, takes the cube root and rounds down. 8 trillion cookies is level 2 and 1 quadrillion is level 10.
How many cookies do I need for prestige level 100?
Level n needs n cubed times one trillion lifetime cookies, so level 100 needs 1e18, one quintillion. Level 1,000 needs 1e21.
Does prestige count cookies from earlier ascensions?
Yes. The code passes the cookies from past resets plus the current run to the prestige function. The gain from one ascension is the new level minus the level you already had.
How much production does each prestige level give?
In the base game each level adds 1% production multiplied by heavenly power and your heavenly potential multiplier. At full potential 100 levels give +100%; at lower potential the bonus is smaller.
Does this work for other idle games?
Only if the game uses the same shape, level = floor((earnings / base) ^ (1 / root)). Enter your game's base and root in the custom boxes. Games with other formulas, such as sums of tiers, are not covered.
Why does prestige get slower the more I have?
Because of the root. With a cube root, 8 times the earnings gives 2 times the level, and 1,000 times the earnings gives 10 times the level, so each extra level costs more cookies than the last.
