Alberta Insurance Council agent lookup.

The Alberta Insurance Council (AIC) offers an Agent Lookup on its licensing site. This page explains what the council licenses and links to the lookup; it checks nothing itself.

Short answer: use the AIC Agent Lookup to “look up your agent and confirm you’re getting service from a licensed insurance professional,” in the council’s words.

What the Alberta Insurance Council licenses

The AIC’s site lists licence categories for general insurance, life insurance, accident and sickness insurance and adjusters, plus restricted business licences and the licensing of a business through a designated representative. The AIC also says it investigates complaints against insurance agents, brokers and independent adjusters.

The AIC page does not describe which fields the Agent Lookup returns, so this guide does not either. Open the lookup to see what it shows.

Open the Agent Lookup

The lookup is an interactive page on the council’s licensing site, linked from the AIC home page under “Verify a licensed professional.”

When to check an Alberta insurance licence

Typical reasons: before buying coverage from someone who approached you, before hiring an independent adjuster to handle a claim, or when a business says it is licensed to sell insurance. If the agent does not appear, try other spellings of the name, then contact the AIC (the home page lists 403-233-2929 for Calgary and 780-421-4148 for Edmonton).

Spelling note

The council uses the American spelling “license” on its site and in its category names; the search itself is the same however you spell it.

Guide only — not a verification tool

This page describes the official register and links to it. It does not check anyone’s licence status, does not copy or proxy the register, and nothing you might type here is transmitted anywhere. Registers change; use the official source linked above and contact the regulator to confirm anything that matters.
