Important, up front: this page is a signpost. The City describes its Business Licence look up as a tool for finding businesses that have a valid licence, including stationary businesses and trades. It does not cover every kind of permit.

Why check a licence
A licence check is a quick way to confirm that a trade or storefront business you are about to hire or pay is registered with the City. It does not assess the quality of the work and a missing result does not prove anything by itself: the business may trade under another name, or may need a different permit type.
