Quit Smoking and Nicotine Math

Rolling tobacco cost per cigarette calculator.

Enter the grams in your pouch, its price, and how many grams you put in one rolled cigarette. You get cigarettes per pouch, cost per cigarette and per year, and the difference from buying packs. Grams per cigarette is a number only you know. The 0.5 g start is a common rule of thumb, not a published standard. Runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Worked example

A 30 g pouch at $25 rolled at 0.5 g per cigarette makes 60 cigarettes, which is $0.42 each; with $0.03 for papers and a filter the cost is $0.45 per cigarette. At 10 a day that is $1,630.33 a year. Packs of 20 at $15 cost $0.75 each and $2,737.50 a year, so rolling is $1,107.17 a year less on these example numbers. Rolling thicker at 0.8 g per cigarette gives 37.5 cigarettes per pouch.

How it works

cigarettes per pouch = pouch grams / grams per cigarette. Cost each = pouch price / cigarettes per pouch + papers and filter each. Yearly = cost each x cigarettes per day x 365. The pack comparison uses pack price / cigarettes per pack for the same number of cigarettes. The tool takes your grams per cigarette on trust: a 0.5 g starting value is a common rule of thumb and not a published standard, and real rolls vary with the tobacco, the paper and how tightly you roll.
