Worked example

10 cigarettes a day from $15 packs of 20 costs $2,737.50 a year ($7.50 a day). $15 a week on vaping is $782.66 a year. 8 pouches a day from $7 cans of 20 is $1,022.00 a year ($2.80 a day). On these example numbers the lowest of the three is Vape; the vape is $1,954.84 less per year than cigarettes and the pouches $1,715.50 less. Your own prices will change the order.

How it works

Cigarettes per year = cigarettes per day x (pack price / cigarettes per pack) x 365. Vape per year = weekly spend x 52.1775. Pouches per year = pouches per day x (can price / pouches per can) x 365. Monthly is yearly / 12 and daily is yearly / 365. The last column is each product's yearly cost minus the cigarette cost. Only money is compared: nothing here says one product is safer, equivalent or a way to quit another.
