How it is calculated

Fee = price × (percentage fee + any currency-conversion percentage) + fixed fee, rounded to the cent. You keep = price − fee. Price to charge for a target amount = (target + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − total percentage), rounded up to the cent and then checked so the net is never below the target.

Worked example: at 3.4% + $0.45 (domestic commercial transaction), a $100.00 sale costs $3.85, so you keep $96.15. To receive exactly $100.00 you charge $103.99, which carries a $3.99 fee.

PayPal New Zealand pricing: www.paypal.com/nz/business/paypal-business-fees, retrieved 2026-10. PayPal’s New Zealand page does not list New Zealand by name in its rate tables; the 3.40% domestic and 4.40% international commercial rates are from the “All other markets” rows, and the NZ$0.45 fixed fee is from the New Zealand dollar row. Confirm in your own PayPal account. The 3.0% and 4.0% currency-conversion figures come from PayPal’s conversion tables; which one applies depends on the type of conversion, so pick the one your account shows. PayPal lists an NZ$15.00 card chargeback fee in its “All other markets” table. It is not added to the sale calculation.

FAQ

Divide the amount you want plus the fixed fee by one minus the percentage rate. At 3.4% + $0.45, receiving $100.00 means charging $103.99 (fee $3.99). The calculator rounds to the cent and checks that the net is never below your target.
