Worked example
100 payments of $5.00 is $500.00. Say 40% are subscriptions and 25% come from outside the US. The percentage fees add up to 5% + 2.9% + 0.5% = 8.4%, plus 0.5% on the subscription share (0.2%) and 1% on the international share (0.25%), 8.9% in total. That is $0.44 plus $0.30 = $0.74 per payment, so you keep $4.26 of each $5.00 and $425.75 a month.
How it works
Buy Me a Coffee's help article says it applies a 5% platform fee per transaction with no monthly fee. It then lists Stripe's standard 2.9% + $0.30 per successful transaction, a 0.5% fee for payout processing, +1% for international (outside the US) transactions and +0.5% for subscription payments. This calculator adds those percentages and subtracts the $0.30 once per payment.
The article does not say whether each percentage is taken on the same amount, so every percentage here is applied to the payment amount. Your dashboard is the final word. Because $0.30 is fixed, small payments lose a larger share, which is what the goal row shows: the payment size that leaves the amount you want.

FAQ
How much does Buy Me a Coffee take?
Its help article lists a 5% platform fee per transaction, plus Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30, a 0.5% payout processing fee, +1% on international transactions and +0.5% on subscription payments. On a $5.00 domestic one-off payment that totals $0.72, so you keep $4.28.
Is the 5% the only fee?
No. The same help article lists the Stripe processing and payout fees as separate lines, and the surcharges apply only in the cases it names.
Why do small coffees lose the most?
The $0.30 Stripe fee is the same on every payment, so it is 6% of a $5.00 payment but 1% of a $30.00 one.
Does this include currency conversion or tax?
No. Those are not on the help article, so they are not modelled. If a supporter pays in a different currency than your payout, use the payout and currency conversion calculator.
