Freelancers · Getting paid

PayPal international fee calculator.

A client sends you money from abroad. Enter the fee layers from your fee schedule and see what is left, before and after currency conversion.

Net = payment - (payment x (fee % + cross-border %) + fixed fee). Then net x (mid-market rate x (1 - spread)). A 1,000 payment with 3% + 1.5% + 0.50 fixed leaves 954.50; a 3% conversion spread at 1.40 turns that into 1,296.21.

Worked example

Worked example. A 1,000 payment with a 3% fee, a 1.5% cross-border fee and a 0.50 fixed fee costs 30.00 + 15.00 + 0.50 = 45.50, leaving 954.50. Converting at a 1.40 mid-market rate with a 3% spread applies 1.358, so you receive 1,296.21. The same 1,000 converted at 1.40 with no fees is 1,400.00, an all-in cost of 7.41%. The percentages are example inputs only.

How it works

Fees first. Total fee = payment x (percentage fee + cross-border percentage) + fixed fee. The remainder is your net in the payment currency.

Then conversion. If the balance is converted, the rate applied is mid-market x (1 - spread). Net x applied rate is what reaches you; the all-in cost compares it with the payment converted at the mid-market rate with no fees at all.

Platforms can charge different rates by country, account type, payment method and currency, and the schedule changes. That is why no rate is built in: open your own fee page (linked below), copy the percentages and fixed fee for your case, and type them in. This page is not affiliated with Wise, PayPal, Payoneer or any bank. Their names appear only to say which fee schedules you can copy numbers from.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or stored. This is an estimate for planning, not tax, legal or financial advice.

FAQ

How much will I receive after PayPal fees on an international payment?

Take the payment, subtract the percentage fee, any extra cross-border percentage and the fixed fee from your fee schedule, then apply the conversion rate if the balance is converted. Enter those numbers above to get the figure.

What is the currency conversion spread?

A percentage the platform keeps by converting at a rate worse than mid-market. It is not on the fee line, so enter it separately to see the real cost.

Can I avoid the conversion spread?

Only by not converting on that platform, for example by holding or withdrawing in the payment currency where your platform allows it, or by converting elsewhere at a cheaper rate. Compare the all-in cost figure for each route.

Does this work for Payoneer and other platforms?

Yes. The layers are generic: percentage fee, extra percentage, fixed fee and conversion spread. Fill in whichever apply to your platform.
