Worked example

Earnings of $2,000.00 with 40% paid in another currency: $800.00 is converted at 2%, which costs $16.00. The payout fee of 1% + $0.25 is charged on the $1,984.00 that remains, and four payouts cost $20.84. You get $1,963.16, losing 1.8% to the two. One payout would cost $20.09.

How it works

Patreon's pricing page says its 10% is charged "plus payment processing, currency conversion, and payout fees, and applicable taxes", and Buy Me a Coffee's help article lists a 0.5% payout processing fee. Platforms differ in the figures, and they change, so this calculator uses only the conversion and payout fees you type from your own statement or payout settings.

The order matters: conversion is taken on the share of earnings paid in a different currency from your payout currency, then the payout fee comes off the remaining balance. A flat payout fee is charged each time, so fewer, larger payouts cost less in fixed fees, though waiting longer for your money is its own cost.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or stored.

FAQ

Does Patreon charge a currency conversion fee?

Patreon's pricing page says its 10% is charged plus payment processing, currency conversion and payout fees. It does not give the conversion figure on that page, so enter the one shown in your account.

What is a payout fee?

A charge for moving your balance to your bank, PayPal or similar. It can be a percentage, a flat amount, or both, depending on the method and country.

Is it cheaper to take fewer payouts?

If your payout fee has a flat part, yes: the flat part is charged once per payout. Waiting longer to be paid is the trade-off.

Does the bank convert again?

Possibly. If your bank converts a foreign deposit, it may charge its own spread or fee, which is not included here.
