Add up what a turnover really costs, then see the cleaning fee to charge so you still cover it after the platform takes its share. Runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Fee to charge = turnover cost x (1 + markup) / (1 - platform fee). A $87.50 turnover needs a $103.55 cleaning fee at a 15.5% host fee, which is $34.52 a night on a 3-night stay.

Worked example

2.5 hours at $25 is $62.50 of labour. Add $12 laundry, $8 supplies and $5 other and a turnover costs $87.50. With a 15.5% host fee and no extra margin the fee to charge is $87.50 / (1 - 0.155) = $103.55. The platform takes $16.05 of it, you keep $87.50, and spread over a 3-night stay it is $34.52 per night.

How it works

Turnover cost = hours x rate + laundry + supplies + other. Because the platform takes its percentage of the cleaning fee, charging exactly your cost leaves you short. Dividing by (1 - fee) gives the fee that leaves your cost after the platform fee. The markup field adds margin on top, applied before the fee adjustment.

Guests compare the cleaning fee with the nightly rate, and a fee that is high next to a short stay can cost bookings. Some hosts fold part of it into the nightly rate instead; the per-night figure helps you compare. To see how stay length changes the real cost, use the turnover cost per stay calculator.

Sources and basis: Airbnb Help Centre, Airbnb service fees (opened 2026-10-08), says that under the split-fee structure most hosts pay a 3% host service fee and guests pay 14.1% to 16.5% of the booking subtotal, and that under the single-fee structure most hosts pay 15.5%, with the fee taken as a percentage of the nightly price plus any fees the host charges. Fees change and vary by listing, so enter the figure from your own host account. The cleaning rate, laundry and supplies figures are yours; no market cleaning price is assumed.

Local short-term rental licensing, zoning and tax rules vary, so check your municipality. This is arithmetic on the numbers you enter, not tax or legal advice.

FAQ

How much should I charge for an Airbnb cleaning fee?

Enough to cover what a turnover costs you after the platform fee. Work out hours x rate plus laundry and supplies, then divide by one minus your host fee. The example comes to $103.55.

Why divide by one minus the host fee?

Because the platform takes its percentage of the cleaning fee as well. Charging only your cost would leave you short by that percentage.

Should cleaning be in the nightly rate instead?

Either works. A cleaning fee is fairer on short stays because the cost is per stay, not per night. The per-night figure shows what a fee adds for the typical guest.

Does this include my own time?

Only if you enter it. Put your own cleaning hours at a rate you would accept, otherwise the fee understates the real cost.
