Home Cleaning Calculators

House cleaning time and cost.

Estimate the hours a clean will take from the area and the pace of one cleaner, scale it for a deep or move-out clean, and compare an hourly cleaner or a flat quote with doing it yourself. Pace and multiplier are your own inputs. Runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Your numbers

In the unit above. A rule of thumb you adjust: time yourself on one room and scale up. It is not a published standard.

1 = routine clean. Enter 2, 2.5 or more for a deep clean or move-out clean (inside cabinets, appliances, baseboards). Your estimate.

Worked example

A 1,500 sq ft home at 300 sq ft per person per hour and a routine clean takes 1,500 / 300 x 1 = 5.0 person-hours. With 2 cleaners that is 2.5 hours on the clock. At $30 an hour each, hiring costs $150.00. Doing it yourself at a $15 hour of your time plus $20 of supplies is $95.00. For a deep clean you expect to take 2.5 times as long, it becomes 12.5 person-hours, 6.25 hours with two people and $375.00 hired. These are example inputs, not typical figures: replace them with your own.

How it works

Person-hours = area / pace x multiplier. Hours on the clock = person-hours / number of cleaners. Hired cost = person-hours x hourly rate. Doing it yourself = person-hours x the value of your hour + supplies. A flat quote is shown per person-hour so you can compare it with hourly rates.

Pace and multiplier are rules of thumb you set. This site is not aware of any published standard for how quickly a home can be cleaned or how much longer a deep or move-out clean takes: those depend on clutter, the number of bathrooms and kitchens, pets, flooring and what the clean includes. Time one room and scale it, or ask a cleaner what they assume, then enter that. Square footage alone is a weak guide, so treat the result as an estimate.

Sources and basis (checked 2026-10-08): arithmetic on the numbers you enter; 1 square metre = 10.7639 square feet. No outside pace or price is applied.

FAQ

How long does it take to clean a house by square foot?

There is no standard figure; it depends on condition, layout and how thorough the clean is. Enter the area one person cleans per hour from your own timing and the calculator scales it.

How long does a move-out or deep clean take?

Longer than a routine clean because it includes things like inside cabinets and appliances. Set the multiplier to your estimate, for example 2 to 3 times a routine clean.

Is it cheaper to hire cleaners or do it myself?

Compare the hired cost with your own time valued at an hourly figure you choose, plus supplies. The tool shows both.

How do I compare a flat quote with hourly pricing?

Enter the quote; the tool divides it by person-hours so you can compare it with an hourly rate.

Does the number of cleaners change the cost?

No. Person-hours stay the same, so an hourly-rate cost is unchanged; more cleaners only shorten the time on the clock.
