The NATO phonetic alphabet, letter by letter
The NATO (ICAO) phonetic alphabet assigns a distinct spoken word to each letter so it can't be misheard over a noisy radio: A is Alpha, B is Bravo, and so on through Z for Zulu. Digits get spoken words too — 9 is "Niner" rather than "Nine," so it's never confused with "Five" or the German "Nein" over a bad connection.
