About this Braille translator
This tool produces Grade 1 (uncontracted) Braille — a direct, letter-by-letter transliteration of English text using the standard 6-dot Braille cell. It does not attempt Grade 2 (contracted) Braille, which replaces common letter groups and whole words with special contraction signs under a large rule-based dictionary; that's a different, much larger system used mainly for print publishing.
Each Braille cell is rendered as a real Unicode character from the Braille Patterns block (U+2800–U+28FF), so you can copy the output and paste it anywhere Unicode text is accepted. A capital sign (dot 6) precedes any capitalized letter, and a number sign (dots 3-4-5-6) precedes a run of digits — digits reuse the same dot patterns as letters A–J. Basic punctuation (period, comma, question mark, exclamation mark, colon, semicolon, apostrophe, hyphen) is also supported.
