About this text extractor
The tool scans your text with pattern matching and lists every match of the type you pick, in the order it first appears. It is meant for cleaning up a pasted document, not for harvesting addresses from sites you do not own: bulk-emailing people who never agreed to hear from you can break anti-spam law such as CASL in Canada and CAN-SPAM in the United States.
What each type matches
- Email addresses: a local part, an
@and a domain with at least one dot, such as[email protected].foo@barwith no dot in the domain is not listed. - URLs: anything starting with
http://orhttps://. Trailing punctuation from a sentence, such as a full stop, comma or closing bracket, is removed, but a bracket that belongs inside a URL is kept. - Phone numbers: North American style,
(416) 555-0199,416-555-0199,416.555.0199,+1 416 555 0199. International formats are not detected. - Hashtags must contain a letter, so
#123is skipped; @mentions are 1 to 30 letters, digits or underscores and exclude email addresses. - IPv4 addresses: four numbers from 0 to 255 separated by dots.
999.1.1.1is rejected.
Limits
Pattern matching finds what looks like an address, not whether it works. A match can be misspelled, obfuscated addresses such as name [at] example.com are not detected, and a very unusual but valid address may be missed. Input is limited to 5 MB and processed in your browser.
FAQ
How do I extract all email addresses from a text or document?
Paste the text, keep Extract set to Email addresses and copy the list. Choose the semicolon separator to paste it straight into an email client's address field.
Does it remove duplicate emails?
Yes, by default, and different capitalisation counts as the same address. Untick the options to keep every occurrence.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The matching runs in your browser.
