Text copied out of a PDF, an email client or a narrow column usually carries a hard line break at the end of every visual line. Pasted into a document, form or chat box it will not reflow. This tool removes those breaks and tidies the spacing in one pass.

Choosing the right line break option

• Join lines, keep paragraph breaks treats a blank line as a real paragraph break and joins the lines inside each paragraph with a space. This is the right choice for text copied from a PDF or an email.
• Replace every break with a space turns the whole text into one line. Use it for a single paragraph, an address block or a list that must fit on one line.
• Delete every break joins lines with nothing between them, for example a long code or a key that was wrapped.

Other cleanups

• Collapse repeated spaces turns runs of spaces, tabs and non-breaking spaces into one space.
• Rejoin hyphenated words removes a hyphen at the end of a line when the next line continues in lowercase, so inter- followed by national becomes international. A genuine hyphen before a capital letter, such as Jean- then Paul, is left alone, but check compounds like well-known that happen to break after the hyphen.

Limits

Windows (CRLF), old Mac (CR) and Unix (LF) breaks are all recognised. Input is limited to 5 MB and is processed in your browser.
