What this X character counter models
This page implements a practical subset of the public twitter-text v3 configuration. That file sets a maximum weighted length of 280, with each character weighing a number of points on a scale of 100. Code points in the ranges 0–4351, 8192–8205, 8208–8223 and 8242–8247 (Latin letters, digits, common punctuation and spaces) weigh 100, so they count as 1. Everything else has a default weight of 200 and counts as 2, which covers Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters.
Links and emoji
- Every link counts as 23 (
transformedURLLength), however long the address is. - Emoji parsing is on in the config, so each emoji counts as one character of default weight (2), including multi-part emoji such as family or flag emoji.
- Text is normalized to Unicode NFC first, so an e plus a combining accent counts once.
Limits of this tool
The official library uses much larger URL and emoji patterns than this dependency-free page carries. This counter recognizes http:// and https:// links and bare domains on a short list of common endings (such as .com, .ca, .io), and treats pictographs, flags, keycaps and joined emoji sequences as emoji. Unusual links, new emoji or platform changes may produce a different count in X. X also offers longer posts to Premium subscribers; this tool does not model those account-specific limits.

X character counter FAQ
What does this X character counter measure?
It estimates weighted post length with the public twitter-text v3 configuration: common Latin text usually counts as 1 point, many CJK characters and emoji count as 2, and recognized URLs count as 23. It is a planning aid, not an X publishing check.
Does every X post have a 280-character limit?
No. X describes 280 characters as the typical post limit and offers longer posts to Premium subscribers. This counter intentionally models the 280-point twitter-text v3 configuration only, so check X before publishing if your account supports a longer post.
Is my draft sent to X?
No. Counting happens locally in your browser. This tool does not upload your draft, connect to your X account or publish anything.
